1) New Orleans Saints - No more questioning their ability to win big games. That domination of the New York Giants takes care of that question. They were so good that they actually made the Giants look like a mediocre team, which we all know is not the case. This is a legitamite Super Bowl team and I've been saying that from day one so no this is not band wagon. The defense looks a whole lot better than people thought they would be and both Mike Bell and Pierre Thomas can play running back and are pretty decent.
2) Indianapolis Colts - If not for the smack down N.O. laid on Eli and company brother Peyton would hold the top spot. Year in and year out no one is or ever has been more consistent or better than Peyton Manning. Its a different look this year with the same outcome. No longer is there Manning to Harrison. That has been replaced with Manning to Collie or Manning to Garcon, but for Colts fans its all the same. Indianapolis, I'll see you in February.
3) Minnesota Vikings - This is the reemergence of Brett Favre. With the Jets he looked more like a David Carr than Favre but now he's back. With the help of a great defense and the best running back in the league the Vikings are once again a tier on team. The have what it takes to not only make it to the big game but walk away with the Lombardi trophy. This is their time and the only piece that was missing was a legitimate receiver threat and they've found three choices. Percy Harvin, Sidney Rice and Bernard Berrian have all been coming up huge and they will continue to all the way to the championship.
4) Denver Broncos - Kyle Orton, welcome to prosperity. From the depths of failure to the top tier of NFL QB's Orton has risen from obscurity to stardom. Behind Orton and a vicious defense the Broncos have started 6-0. Elvis Dumervil leads the sideline to sideline defense that never seems to run out of energy and forces more mistakes than it makes. Look for them to stick around to the end.
5) New York Giants - The other Manning is quickly becoming just as good as his brother. With Steve Smith, and not the one that usually comes to mind, making plays on the outside and Brandon Jacobs running people over on the inside this offense is extremely dangerous. And their defense is just as good.
6) Atlanta Falcons - Welcome back to NFL prosperity. Behind Matt Ryan, Tony Gonzalez and Michael Turner this team has started their season 4-1. The offense can definitely hold their own, go ahead and ask San Francisco. The defense is play above expectations and this young team, if they play beyond their years, could make it deep into the playoffs.
7) New England Patriots - Well one thing we learned from that Tennessee game is that when all of the pieces of the puzzle are healthy this team is the real deal. They can still throw up a ton of points and yes Tom Brady is still Tom Brady. IF they start playing like that every game watch out.
8) Cincinnati Bengals - Well the Cardiac Cats are definitely fun to watch this season but that let down against the Houston Texans definitely brought back some terrible memories. A bounce back against a tough Chicago Bears team would solidify them as a top ten team.
9) Pittsburgh Steelers - The Defending champs seem to be coming off their hangover but as it stands they did get beat be the Bengals so their ranked lower. That being said Big Ben is starting to play better and the discovery of Rashard Mendenhall has been huge. With Polamalu back in the secondary they are once again a dangerous defense.
10) Chicago Bears - I hesitate to put them this high even though their record is above .500. The team just doesnt impress me in their games. Big game this weekend against the Cincinnati Bengals and a win would make this ranking look a lot better.
11) Baltimore Ravens - They in all honesty should be 4-2 but thats neither here nor there. The defense has to stop making stupid mistakes, including penalties. It cost you the Cincy game and has played a role in several other games. The offense looks better with Joe Flacco and Ray Rice. Definitely not a team to look past.
12) Green Bay Packers - Again this spot is a toss up but i'll give them the nod. Rogers always makes them a threat but the defense and the run game have to get better to make this team a real contender.
13) Philadelphia Eagles - I am being generous. That game against Oakland was awful. On paper this team is better than 3-2 but as of right now thats where they stand. Get it together....
14) Arizona Cardinals - Where has this offense been all year. Dont get me wrong their putting some points on the board but nothing like what we saw last year. Maybe its another strike of the Superbowl hangover. The #1 rushing defense is definitely a plus though.
15) San Diego Chargers - They just lost a tough game to a really good Denver team but a loss is a loss and a 2-3 record is an ugly thing. Rivers is still Rivers but Tomlinson just doesnt look right. Playing days numbered???
16) San Francisco 49ers - They havent been ranked up here in awhile. Need to get some kind of passing game going though. Michael Crabtree this is your time..... dont screw up.
17) Houston Texans - Big win in Cincinnati last week. The offense can definitely put up some numbers, if you watched the game you know, but the defense is lacking and this team is way to hot and cold. Gotta be consistent.
18) Dallas Cowboys - They're unimpressive and thats saying it lightly. Roy Williams is a huge bust of a trade and you can thank Detroit for ruining him. Besides some guy named Miles Austin this team wouldnt have a legitimate receiver threat. I say this to the entire organization, you might have the biggest stadium TV in the league, but if you hit it with punts more than the other team your not doing your job.
19) Miami Dolphins - Not gonna lie Chad Henne is a lot better than anyone expected him to be. We knew Ricky Williams and Ronnie Brown would get their yards but Henne throwing the ball like a young Marino? Yeah its a pretty thing. They could definitely win more then half their games.
20) New York Jets - Falling apart. The rookie is finally coming out in Mark Sanchez and minus the run game they havent been able to do anything on offense. The defense is decent but has to many off days. Mediocre team at best.
21) Jacksonville Jaguars - Well the defense is terrible, the passing game is decent and the running game is good. Jones Drew is the savior of this team. Shut him down, shut them down.
22) Seattle Seahawks - Yeah i know what your thinking this is a little high for this team isnt it? Not at all. The offense has the potential to put up some big numbers but the defense has to get it together and the whole team needs to be more consistent.
23) Carolina Panthers - Well Jake Delhomme is obviously not the answer at quarterback. only 4 touchdowns. wow. this team is going to continue to lose games til they get Delhomme figured out. There lucky they have a good set of running backs.
24) Oakland Raiders - What can you honestly say about the Raiders? They suck but they pull out a win against the Eagles? I have no words. Never know what to think about them. Jamarcus Russell is the worst starting quarterback in the NFL. And someone please remind Richard Seymour where he's playing.
25) Detroit Lions - This team is a few pieces away from being a decent football team. They really need to find some kind of defense though. Stafford is going to be good.
26) Buffalo Bills - They are a mess. Back to back weeks without a touchdown. Yeah they are really bad.
27) Kansas City - They are definitely starting to play better football so dont look past them in the second half of the season.
28) Washington Redskins - How does either Jim Zorn or Jason Campbell still have a job?
29) Cleveland Browns - Not many teams have two useless starting quarterbacks on the same team.
30) Tennessee Titans - Wow, no one saw this coming. Well i mean at least they put up a fight against the Patriots..... wait.......
31) Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Second last, well you could be worse.
32) St. Louis Rams - Wow they have definitely fallen off fast. Remember when they were the greatest show on turf? Whew this is bad.
